Jack White, 2009

Description

Jack White, legendary guitarist of the White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Dead Weather

inspiration drawn from a scene in the movie "It Might Get Loud, 2009" where he's strumming his guitar so violently that blood starts dripping from his hand onto the white guitar and bonding them together as one. So the background was painted in blood, by streaked fingers, and flows into the white stripes which flow over Jack. He needed to be presented in a more raw form, so I have intentionally not overworked anything here.

Original painting (oil on linen) is available here on my Etsy store:  www.etsy.com/listing/400870143…

This is so wonderful. My first impression (after WOW JACK) was that it reminds me of portraits that were popular in the sixties, and that is quite appropriate given the subject matter. I appreciated your comment about not polishing it too much; leaving it a bit rough. I personally find that issue to be one of my greatest challenges: knowing when to stop. You have "let it be" beautifully here. Really excellent matching of the technique to the music itself. And yo have managed to get all his *lushness*: the full red lips, the long hair, the striking eyelashes and engaging stare - without feminizing him. That can be a tricky balance. Bravo to you, artist. I wouldn't change a stroke.
