Since I've been able to create my own work!
I've been doing nothing but client work ...pays the tuition bills, but can't say it satisfies my artistic soul.

It's funny, when I finally start making a decent living at this, I'm miserable and frustrated that I can't paint what I want anymore. I feel as though I've sold out.
Is this normal?

I miss you all so much - I really want to catch up on all the creative directions, new stuff you've been posting. I have lots of new work I haven't posted, just needs those finishing touches...

Happy 2012 to EVERYONE! I don't believe in any of the doom and gloom, end of the world events, so onward with Intentions for the New Year. A couple of years ago I read a great book explaining 2012 that I think is really logical: Fractal Time - the Secrets of 2012 and the New World Age by Greg Braden .
Do your own calculations with his Fractal Time Calculator www.greggbraden.com/fractal-ti…. Even if you don't believe, it still gets you thinking about the possibilities! If this man is wrong, oh well, c'est la vie. We all have to die sometime. I'm not going to worry about it, RTTG2012, LOL. So, in that spirit, I'll be adding some new work shortly, I'm playing with some new combinations of mediums on Yupo paper. Stay tuned.

Got a cool email from the owner of Evaline Guitars, made my day today:

I'm the owner/builder of the Evaline Guitar Company in Michigan.  I made Jinxx's famous "Ouija" guitar.   I just ran across the painting you did of him with that guitar.  And I must say, I was both completely impressed and quite honored.   Your work is beautiful.  Thank you for painting that picture.  I hope you do well with your gift"  --Gary



There's 3 people who I think are just fantastic at what they do, are represented many times in my gallery art (in tribute) and they all share the same birthday: January 9.  Tall, dark, intelligent and mysterious, those Capricorns.  Each one of them has given me a gift of looking at my life differently.

Jimmy Page:  Jimmy taught me to trust my own inner voice. That something of who you are is infused in everything you do or create. Not to be afraid to push the boundaries of your knowledge, be a seeker of the wisdom you wish to receive. "Don't be afraid to dance on the edge of the precipice." Take chances with your work.  Listening to Pagey's music, many years ago, I created a painting that was instrumental in getting me into RISD (art school) . I was waitlisted until I showed the admissions director that painting!

Jinxx (Jeremy Ferguson, Black Veil Brides):  Jinxx taught me that being a virtuoso in one medium does not mean you shouldn't strive to master others.  And don't be afraid to express your deviant side!

Severus Snape (well, ok, Alan Rickman's birthday is in Feb, but Snape's b'day is 1/9 ): Snape taught me to embrace the dual aspects in our nature, both  light and shadow. And most importantly, Do what you know is right, in your heart, even if the rest of the world misunderstands you. It's easy to do the right thing when popular opinion is on your side,  hard when everyone throws hate in your direction. Be true to who you are.

Man, I just found out Steve Jobs died today.  :cry:

He was such an inspiration, his innovation and ideas made such a difference in our everyday lives, in how people work and connect. And how so many of us artists create.
He certainly did live his dream to the fullest and took all of us along for that amazing ride.


That makes me so sad, in light of my last journal entry (below) .

Steve Jobs address to graduating class of Stamford in 2005. "How To Live Before You Die" in which he states, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do." which includes one of my favorite Jobs quote:

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary." - Steve Jobs

So here's Jobs saying: "If I were going to die, would I do what I am about to do today? If the answer is "no" too many days in a row, then I know I have to change something. Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life.

Because everything, all expectations, pride, fear of embarrassment or failure, these things all fall away in the face of death, leaving just what is truly important.

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. In closing: Stay hungry, stay foolish. "

The truth of his words resonate. And it makes me sad, too, for Steve, because it may well be that this time, in 2011, he is possibly facing his own death. I wish he would be with us for a long time.
